Hello friends and happy Friday! Even though it’s kind of hard to tell the days apart lately!
I was scheduled to have an Amazon post for you today, but I figured an at-home capsule wardrobe would serve you better right now. We know that one of the things that will help us through this period in our lives is to create as much structure and routine as you can, so that you don’t get that “lost at sea” feeling. A daily routine helps provide a sense of normalcy and getting up and dressed and ready for the day is part of that.
Our weekday morning routine includes kids getting up, making their beds, eating breakfast, brushing teeth, and getting dressed- then sitting down to the table at 9am to start their schoolwork. Yesterday, James asked me why I wouldn’t let him do his work in pajamas. I told him he’ll feel more productive and do better work in real clothes. Then, he started arguing with me. #hesakid So I just said, that’s the rule, get dressed. #Imthemom You can put on pajamas when you’re done.
I fully believe that. I’m definitely less productive and just feel “off” when I start working without changing out of my pajamas. Since almost all of us are either working from home or at home all day, I have a capsule list of things you can wear and still be comfortable. I even have leggings and joggers on the list!
All of these basic pieces mix and match, and you might have them already in your closet- or a similar version. You’ll see I kept it mostly neutrals because that’s what I’m most drawn to, but it’s also easy to pair them together.
And just for fun, I added a roundup of tan sandals at the bottom of this post because I was seeing so many darling styles and wanted to share. Bonus, they’re all on sale!
AT HOME CAPSULE WARDROBE
I’m in Houston and our weather has been heating up lately, but it’s still also a mix of chilly and rainy sometimes. Inside, I’m starting to wear shorts on those warmer days, and then it’s also easy to hop outside if the kids want to play, go for a walk or ride their bikes.
This dolman sleeve, boatneck shirt is soft and stretchy and goes with everything! I love the relaxed style and it comes in five colors. It’s also long enough to wear with leggings.
Tee Fit: I’m wearing an XS
These cutoff jean shorts have been a wardrobe staple for awhile now and are so comfortable. They have a raw edge hem and slight distressing. When I linked them, the link only went to one specific size, so I linked the landing page instead.
Shorts Fit : TTS relaxed fit, I’m wearing 25
For a little bit dressier jean short, try the denim utility shorts at Loft. They are still comfy and casual, but look a little more polished with the seaming and darker wash.
Shorts Fit : I sized down one to 24
You cannot be at home without a Barefoot Dreams cardigan! This one I’m wearing I’ve had for 3 years I think and it’s still holding up great – with tons of wear and many machine washings. Lately, I’ve been keeping it on the back of my office chair because I tend to get chilly inside.
Cardigan Fit: I’m wearing an XS
For a great basic tank, I really like the Amazon Essentials. They’re comfortable, stretchy cotton with a classic scoop neck. A pack of two is only about $15.
If you want to go a little more professional, but still be nice and comfortable, this crisp white button down is a no brainer. It’s tailored, yet flowy and doesn’t feel stiff at all. I like to cuff the sleeves for a casual look. You can wear it tucked or untucked for different looks.
Top Fit: I’m wearing an XS
Up the ante on your basic tee with this darling one with puffed sleeves and eyelet detail. I keep meaning to order more while they’re on sale.
Tee Fit: I’m wearing an XS
I’m sure all of us are opting for leggings on repeat! This pair is from Amazon and a great all-around legging with a high waist and perfect slim seaming at the waist. They are totally opaque and quite comfortable – the perfect mix of weight, but still moveable.
Leggings Fit: I’m wearing an XS
I liked this soft tank so much I bought it in multiple colors. It’s perfectly soft and stretchy and slimming with wider shoulders, so no worries about your bra straps showing.
Top Fit: I’m wearing an XS
Lately, if I want to wear jeans, it’s this chewed hem pair by Loft. They fit and feel amazing on, and I like the raw edge hem detail. Mine are vintage wash (running low on sizes), but they are also available in a light wash.
I like this stripe pullover for chillier days. It’s a ribbed knit, and the classic navy stripe easily falls on the preppy side.
Top Fit: I’m wearing an XS, runs large, I’d prefer XSP
Camo joggers are a great alternative to jeans. They’re a step up from the cozy joggers, but more forgiving than jeans. When we can socialize in public again, they look great dressed up too.
You might also have the Madewell pocket tank, another great basic tank with a v-neck and single front pocket. It’s lightweight and goes with everything from shorts to jeans. Also looks great under the Barefoot Dreams cardigan.
Tank Fit : I’m wearing size XS
The socialite scoop neck tee is the basic tee I’ve been reaching for most often lately. I love the silky feel and feminine shape. I have the black and white and the white is nice and opaque.
Tee Fit : I’m wearing size XS
Even when you’re just at home, you sometimes want to wear a dress. I like one like this- unfussy and easy to wear around the house. The tank is a scoop neck style and you won’t have to worry about your bra showing. Plus, I love that it has pockets.
Tank Dress Fit: I’m wearing an XS
This jumpsuit was one of your March Best Sellers, so you may be wearing it right now! It’s seriously so comfortable, and the material is really soft and stretchy, with a bit more weight to it so it feels nice and substantial.
Jumpsuit Fit: I’m wearing an XS
These joggers are probably one of my most worn items of all time. In ‘real life’ I often put them on at the end of the day when I’m ready to get undressed, lounge around the house in them, run errands and even sleep in them! They are super cozy and have held up to tons of machine wash and dry cycles!
Joggers Fit : I’m wearing XS
If it’s chilly where you are, or you want to be extra cozy, a good pullover is a must have. This one is a terry fleece with a 3/4 zip front and kangaroo pocket. It comes in other colors, even a cute rainbow stripe.
Pullover Fit: I’m wearing an XS
The joggers come with a drawstring waist, but I ended up pulling out the string.
Tank Fit: I’m wearing an XS
These wide leg lounge pants are one of my newest obsessions. I’ve been wearing them nonstop and really want the darker grey now too. They’re made of a soft cozy signature yarn, with plenty of stretch and are also machine washable. They easily pull on with an elastic waist and functional drawstring tie.
Jogger Fit: I’m wearing an XXS
Tank Fit: I’m wearing an XS
Although this is a capsule wardrobe post, I have to add in the ultra cozy jammies I’ve been wearing for a couple of months now. They are the perfect weight for in between weather and the top is 3/4 length sleeve.
Pajamas Fit: I’m wearing an XS top and bottom
We can’t talk about stay at home clothing without mentioning undergarments. Y’all dubbed this soft bra the “quarantine bra”. I was cracking up at your comments on Stories about how will NOT be wearing a traditional bra at home thankyouverymuch! I feel ya! I’m wearing mine right now!
As for bottoms, I still prefer my no show, no wedgie, Nordstrom Seamless Undies. The lingerie lady at Nordstrom recommended these to me years ago and I never looked back. Now they come in a pretty pink too!!
But, the Amazon Amazon Seamless Undies are a great option too. They come in a pack of four for $20.
TAN SANDALS ALL ON SALE
